Our Story

The narrative unfolds in 1994, when Aparna, inspired by her roots and fueled by a passion for fashion, transformed her mom-and-shop boutique into a burgeoning movement to support rural artisans. With no formal education in fashion or business this was her first entrepreneurial venture.

Rooted in her upbringing in India, her journey from hobbyist to advocate has been nothing short of transformative.

She wanted a platform to uplift village artisans and craft makers by providing them livelihood, better life skills and also started her own non profit organisation thereafter.

With a steadfast commitment to preserving India’s cherished tradition of Chikankari handicraft, she has empowered over 500 artisans across the country, and has been recognized and honored for her contribution to women empowerment

Aparna’s story epitomizes the fusion of heritage and innovation, where a simple idea blossomed into a lifelong mission, enriching lives and preserving cultural legacies along the way.

Laila is the story of culture. It is the story of women. It is the story of India and it is the story of hand crafts. When we move around the world, we take our cultures with us. it’s way for us to have connection to who we are and to move forward with a grounding sense of self

This is what we strive to bring in LAILA
